The popular animated series takes to the stage! The SRA Drama Club is excited to perform The SpongeBob Musical on December 4-7, 2025.

The winter production features 20 students in the cast and even more behind the scenes who created the colorful and fantastical set design and lighting. The play centers around the famous friends from the children’s TV series by Stephen Hillenburg and the book by Kyle Jarrow. In the production, the characters discover a volcano eruption may soon impact their tranquil home at Bikini Bottom. The friends are faced with working together to save their home with optimism and hope.

Sprinkled throughout are original songs by some of today’s top artists, including Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

SRA’s Drama program is a 24-time winner of the Rhode Island Drama Festival, and has represented the state numerous times at the New England Drama Festival. Additionally, members of past casts and crew have been awarded Ocean State Star Awards for excellence in the theater arts.

Showtimes are 7 pm for the December 4, 5, and 6 shows, with a matinee on Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 for students/faculty/seniors and $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online or with cash/check at the box office.
