Head Coach: Frank Balcarcel
Assistant Coach: Juan A. Montalvan 

Coach Balcarcel has coached at both the youth and high school levels. He has worked at Hope, Classical and Dover Sherborn High Schools, where he served as a freshman girls’ soccer coach, goalkeeper coach, JV boys’ coach, and currently as varsity boys’ head coach at Saints. As an assistant coach at Dover Sherborn, he helped the school win a Division 3 state championship in 2011 and to be the first D3 School in state history to break top 10 by ESPN High School Sports ranking.

Coach Balcarcel has also coached several players who have gone on to play at Lafayette, University of New Hampshire, Babson, Union, Washington, Lee, RIC, and CCRI. Some of his former players are currently playing with Development Academy teams like New England Revolution, Boston Bolts and Seacoast United (NH). In addition to being the head coach of the boys’ soccer program at Saint Raphael Academy, he is currently a Massachusetts Olympic Developmental Program U14 Boys Coach as well as a premier soccer coach for Bayside FC and Inter-America Futsal. He holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma, a USSF National “D” certification and is in the process of obtaining his National “C” license. Coach Balcarcel is also an active member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Coach Montalvan has been involved in soccer as a player, coach and referee for many years. He played Division I for National Agrarian University in Lima, Peru, in 1979. He also practiced and played for the club Sporting Cristal professional team.

Coach Montalvan played L.A.S.A. for the East Providence team, which won the championship in 1981. He joined the United States Navy, playing for the fleet against NATO countries (England, Italy, Spain, Germany) from 1983-1986. Mr. Montalvan played for different semi-pro teams in New Jersey and Rhode Island until 1997. He was part of the Rhode Island Olympic Development Program (ODP) coaching staff from 2007-2012. He coached the Wheeler School boys team, Pawtucket Storm, and presently coaches the Saint Raphael Academy boys JV soccer team. Coach Montalvan is licensed by USSF and NSCAA and is also a USSF and NCAA Soccer Official, in addition to being a USSF instructor, assignor, assessor and a mentor. He graduated from Salve Regina University with an MS in management. Coach Montalvan speaks fluent Spanish and some Portuguese.
