October 7, 2014

Greetings! The leaves are beginning to turn and there is a chill in the air – it must be October on Walcott Street. Before we look ahead to October, let’s take a moment to look back at one of the highlights of September: Bishop Tobin’s visit. Last week, Bishop Tobin and several other guests joined us to celebrate the Opening of School Mass. The students and the Saints’ faculty and staff did a wonderful job throughout the day, and Bishop Tobin thoroughly enjoyed his time on our campus.

The first week of October is upon us, and this week we will all be celebrating Saints Homecoming Week. Each day will be a different theme; the Homecoming schedule is posted here. The week will culminate with a pep rally on Friday afternoon, a home football game Friday evening, and finally the Homecoming Dance Saturday night! The dance will be a great way to end what is sure to be a tremendous week. We are also well into the fall athletic season and our athletes are performing wonderfully. All of our athletic teams are doing amazingly well; in fact, almost every team has a winning record! The teams and their coaches are looking forward to the post-season. Across campus, the Drama Club is busy preparing for their first show of the year: Godspell. I am certainly looking forward to opening night in the Coutu Theater. On the academic side, we are finishing up the first half of the first quarter and progress reports will be sent home on Friday, October 10. Where does the time go?

Last weekend we held our first Open House of the season. The day was an amazing success. We had a near-record turnout of prospective students (Class of 2019) and the positive energy was amazing. The next Open House will be Sunday, November 9, from 12:00 – 3:00pm. Please tell a friend! Later this month (October 23rd) is one of my favorite events at Saint Rays: the Annual Saints Walk-A-Thon. This event helps with our fundraising efforts and is a great team builder for the entire community. The Walk-A-Thon will end with lunch and numerous activities at Alumni Hall, followed by early dismissal for the students (at approximately 1:00pm). Your support with our annual fundraiser would be greatly appreciated!

We also have other very special events scheduled throughout the month of October. On October 14, we have our annual Blood Drive in Alumni Hall; if your child is eligible, please encourage them to donate and help save a life. The next day (October 15) will be busy: the freshmen will be on retreat, the Juniors and Sophomores will be taking the PSAT exam, and the Seniors will be off campus visiting colleges. The following week (October 21) we will be celebrating the Junior Ring and Pinning Ceremony at St. Joseph’s Church at 7:00pm. All members of the Class of 2016 are expected to attend this important ceremony as we recognize them as upper-class students!
