On Sunday, June 10, 2012, Saint Raphael Academy celebrated its Eighty-Fifth Commencement at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.  With Bishop Robert C. Evans, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence, presiding, it was a wonderful celebration of the Class of 2012, and their noteworthy accomplishments, which include:

  • 100% Graduation Rate.
  • 100% College Matriculation Rate.
  • The 90 members of the graduating class awarded $11.5 million in scholarships and grants to attend prestigious colleges and universities (full listing of all graduates appears below).
  • Over 12,000 hours of Christian Service completed.
  • Letters of acceptance into Harvard University, Boston College, Northeastern University, United States Air Force Academy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and many more (full listing appears below).

Juan Bedoya delivers the Valedictorian's Address.

Juan E. Bedoya, of Johnston, RI, was the Class of 2012 Valedictorian. Juan graduated with a cumulative weighted average of 114.76.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, Rhode Island Honor Society, International Thespian Honor Society, and the Moore Scholars Program.  He participated in Lasallian Youth, the Chess Club, Chorus, the Drama Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Mock Trial, Tennis, and Soccer.  He also served Saint Raphael Academy as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of Student Government.  He was accepted into New York University, Tufts University, Boston College, Northeastern University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, University of New Haven, University of Rhode Island, and Harvard University.  He will attend Harvard University in the fall with a $43,000 per year scholarship, for a four-year total of $172,000.

Michelle Torres delivers the Salutatorian's Address.

Michelle Torres, of Central Falls, RI, was the Class of 2012 Salutatorian. Michelle graduated with a cumulative weighted average of 111.77.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, Rhode Island Honor Society, and the Moore Scholars Program.  She participated in Model Legislature, Mock Trial and Track.  She served Saint Raphael Academy as a Eucharistic Minister and a Saints Ambassador.  She was accepted into Boston College, the University of Rhode Island, and Providence College. She will attend Boston College in the fall with $53,000 per year in scholarships and awards, for a four-year total of $212,00.

Anamaria Arteaga is presented the Edith Peck Phillips Memorial Award by Mrs. Maryann Donohue-Lynch, Academy President-Principal, Bishop Robert C. Evans, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence, and Mr. Daniel Ferris, Superintendent of Catholic Schools.

The 2012 Edith Peck Phillips Memorial Award was presented at graduation to Anamaria Arteaga, of Pawtucket, RI, who will be attending Salve Regina University in the fall.  The Edith Peck Phillips Memorial Award is presented in memory of a benefactor of Saint Raphael Academy.  It is the most prestigious acknowledgement that Saint Raphael Academy can make of a student’s contribution to the school community.  It is a very special award that is given to a student who has earned the respect and enjoys the affection of all who have been associated with this senior at Saint Raphael Academy.  The award is meant to recognize a student who has developed a perspective on himself or herself and this person’s relationship to the world around him or her in a way that shows a sense of priority and of proportion.
