mock trial

A win today for Saint Raphael Acadmey’s Mock Trial team would secure them a spot in the 16-school final round.

This afternoon, (Tuesday February 11) the Saint Raphael Academy Mock Trial team will compete against Middletown at the Garrahy Judicial Complex in the third round of the 2013-2014 Rhode Island Mock Trial Tournament.* A win today will guarantee SAINTS a spot in the 16-school final round.

Saint Raphael Academy’s Mock Trial team started the year with a convincing win over Johnston in round one. However, a heartbreaking loss to Tiverton in round two has them eager to get back in the courtroom and to secure their place in the finals.

Mock Trial is a national competition where schools prepare and present the defense and prosecution of a fictional court case. Local judges and lawyers donate their spare time to provide a realistic courtroom setting for the students and to adjudicate the proceedings. Ms. Michalczyk, coach of Saint Raphael Academy’s Mock Trial team, commends the embracing and generous nature the judges and lawyers possess. The use of true professionals and everyday courtrooms provide students with the unique opportunity to experience the legal world before committing college years to the pursuit of a law degree.

The team is led by seniors Kristina Pinault and Gianna Leone and is supported by juniors Emily O’Connell, Enrique Castaneda-Pineda, Kayla Colson, Mackenzie Hughes, and Ciarra Botelho. The team also possess a large amount of underclassmen with sophomores Alyssa Fletcher, Anna Morais, Victoria Rose, and Ethan MacDonald and freshmen Ben MacDonald and David Coderre.

We wish them luck!

*This competition was postponed by one day. It will occur on February 12.
