SRA Football Program
The St. Raphael Academy football program has a long and storied history. The program has won 15 state titles and appeared in 10 Super Bowls, winning 7, since the Super Bowl format was instituted in 1972.
The program is led by Mike Sassi ’86, who is entering his 14th season as head coach. He has been named Nike Division II Coach of the Year (1999), RIIL Division I Coach of the Year (2003, 2007), and RIIL Coach of the Year (2007). Coach Sassi has led SRA to 3 Super Bowls, winning titles in 1999 and 2007.
The program has alumni currently playing for: North Carolina State, University of Rhode Island, Sacred Heart, Bryant University, and Norwich. Over the past decade, other SRA football alumni have played at Boston College, Temple, University of New Hampshire, Bucknell, Brown University, Nichols College, Bridgewater State, Dean College, Salve Regina, and Merrimack.
SRA Football does not cut any players that come out for the team. We welcome all to experience being part of the SRA football tradition.
We are anxious to start the 2011 season. The team has 6 offensive starters and 5 defensive starters returning from a squad that went to the semifinals last year. The team is led by one of the most highly recruited players in school history, Davon Robertson, who is a finalist for participation in the U.S. Army All-Star Game.
