Congratulations, Lauren Gaj (Class of 2013) and Robert Parker (Class of 2012), for being named the October 2011 Athletes of the Month!

Lauren Gaj ’13 (pictured above on the left), of Pawtucket, RI, is one of Saint Raphael Academy’s top student-athletes. Besides being one of the most-notable students in her class and a true leader amongst her peers, Lauren is a dedicated and gifted athlete. As a member of the girls varsity soccer team, which has been one of the best Division III girls soccer teams in the state for the past two years (two-year record of 26-3-1), Lauren started every single game playing mid-field. Lauren is one of the most consistent members of the team, with great endurance and an unrelenting sense of dedication. Her attitude is always positive and with her constant willingness to encourage her teammates, she is the model of sportsmanship. Lauren is also a member of the girls varsity basketball team, Lasallian Youth, SRA’s Multicultural Club, and is the President of the Class of 2013.

Robert Parker ’12 (pictured above on the right), of Johnston, RI, is another of Saint Raphael Academy’s top student-athletes. He too is one of most impressive students in his class, carrying a course-load that includes Advance Placement courses, and he’s one of the state’s best runners. As a member of the boys varsity cross country team, Bobby won every dual meet versus LaSalle, Barrington, East Providence, Mount Hope, Moses Brown, and Portsmouth. Bobby won the City of Pawtucket Championship and was named 1st Team All-Division, will be 1st Team All-Class, and has a great shot at being named to the All-State team. To add to his list of great accomplishments, Bobby qualified to run in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on December 10, 2011 in South Carolina.

Athlete of the Month is presented to one female and one male student-athlete from Saint Raphael Academy on a monthly basis throughout the academic year. Nominees must excel in the classroom and during competition, and must be good citizens in both the Saint Raphael Academy community and the community at-large.
